Security Features Explained: MEV Protection & Token Scans
"Security" on a self-custody terminal means something different than it does on a custodial exchange — there's no central account to protect, but there's more surface area for things to go wrong on individual trades. Here's what Padre Terminal's security-related features actually cover.
Self-custody as the baseline
The starting point is unchanged from what's covered elsewhere on this site: your private key is encrypted client-side, the terminal never takes custody of funds, and every trade settles directly from your own wallet. This removes an entire category of risk (a platform being hacked and losing customer funds) while shifting responsibility for key security onto you.
MEV protection, where available
Padre Terminal is listed as offering MEV protection on supported chains — routing transactions in a way intended to reduce exposure to sandwich attacks, where a bot detects your pending trade, buys immediately ahead of it, and sells immediately after to profit from the price movement your order causes.
MEV protection isn't necessarily uniform across every supported chain — if protecting a specific large trade matters, checking the current in-app settings for that chain is more reliable than assuming coverage is identical everywhere.
Token-level scanning on the trade screen
Rather than requiring a separate contract explorer, relevant safety signals are surfaced directly on the token page — the same categories covered in our token safety checklist: liquidity depth, holder concentration, LP lock status, and contract permissions like mint or blacklist functions. Seeing these inline doesn't replace judgment, but it removes the friction of checking a separate tool before every trade.
What security features don't cover
None of this changes the two risks that sit outside any terminal's control:
- Wallet-level security — a compromised seed phrase or a malicious wallet-connect approval bypasses every in-app protection, since the terminal is reading permissions you've already granted.
- Market risk — a token can pass every structural check and still lose value simply because demand doesn't materialize. Security features reduce the odds of trading something structurally broken; they don't predict price.
